A committed and experienced NGO professional, I have over 18 years of wide-ranging experience of evaluating, monitoring and overseeing implementation of diversified social service programmes in the areas of health, education and general welfare across Pakistan.
I began my career in the technology field in 1996, but since 2001 have been associated with the non-profit sector. Joined INFAQ Foundation (infaq.org.pk), one of the largest private corporate foundations of Pakistan, and remained associated with it till late 2017, and left as Chief Manager Operations. The Foundation has been active in Pakistan since mid-80s and continues to be one of the trailblazers in private corporate philanthropy.
During my time at INFAQ Foundation, I gained increasingly progressive experience in funding proposal evaluation, donee site visits and reporting, progress report writing as well as financial management and NGO corporate governance. Consequently, possess overall invaluable experience of the Pakistani philanthropic landscape and the challenging environment we operate in.
After nearly 16 years with the Foundation, in October’2017 I was offered an opportunity to take on the demanding, but very interesting, assignment of becoming the General Manager (Operations & Projects) of the Centre for Development of Social Services – CDSS (cdss.org.pk). This is a truly unique social service project, spread over a sprawling complex of 72 acres of land, in one of Karachi’s most underprivileged areas. Its catchment area has a high population density of indigent and disadvantaged families and it serves around 3-4,000 individuals each day. The complex has a full-fledged primary medical centre, vocational centre, co-educational school (from KG to college), girls college and teachers training centre. The services are either free or highly subsidised. CDSS is progressing steadily, with the help of its 200+ staff, and in the near future will have many more innovative services and projects.
In my spare time I try to bring my skills and experience to a wider sector. In this regard, I offer training sessions to NPO personnel (both on a voluntary basis and paid). I have a special interest in professionalizing of the NGO human resource as well as the expanding area of CSR. The objective is simply to help ensure that NGO staff and their organisations are prepared to respond dynamically to the external changes in the social service environment.
